On 18 June, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius bade farewell to the outgoing Ambassador of Germany to Lithuania Angelika Viets.

The Foreign Minister stressed that Germany was one of the most important partners of Lithuania. Both countries enjoy long-standing historical and cultural ties. Lithuania's Foreign Minister once again thanked the German Ambassador for her role in bringing the Act of Independence of 1918 to Lithuania.

“We expect Germany to make the decision to increase its defense spending in order to ensure security of the country and of the region as a whole,” said L. Linkevičius. He also noted that Germany's contribution to ensuring the security of Lithuania and the Baltic region was greatly appreciated.

Germany leads the NATO enhanced forward presence battalion and participates in the NATO Force Integration Unit in Lithuania. The country has also joined the Vilnius-based NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence. Germany has carried out NATO's Baltic Air Policing mission ten times.

The officials also welcomed robust economic relations with Germany. The country is our third largest trading partner and the fifth largest foreign investor. In addition, the majority of foreign visitors arrive from Germany.
