Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Landsbergis meets with the new Ambassador of Germany
On 15 September, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis received the new Ambassador of Germany to Lithuania Dr. Cornelius Zimmermann.
The Foreign Minister congratulated the Ambassador on his appointment, hoping that bilateral cooperation between Lithuania and Germany would further strengthen.
“We have important work to do, and we are happy to collaborate with such a strong and reliable partner as Germany,” the head of Lithuania’s diplomacy said.
The meeting focused on regional security, defence, and support to Ukraine. Landsbergis thanked Germany for its historic decision to permanently deploy the German brigade in Lithuania and for its strong partnership in protecting the rules-based international order. The Foreign Minister noted that preparation for the deployment of the German brigade was an important priority for both sides and that joint effort should focus on the approval and implementation of a detailed plan for its deployment.
Lithuania’s Foreign Minister also highlighted the importance of further support for Ukraine.
“We must focus and help Ukraine achieve victory by supplying more weapons it needs, tightening sanctions, contributing to the restoration of critical infrastructure and mobilising forces to rebuild the country,” Landsbergis said.
The Ambassador of Germany, Dr. Zimmermann, presented his letters of credence to the President of Lithuania on 28 August 2023.
